Moral Side of the News (Feb 10) - Governor Romney Suspends Campaign
Topic: Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney suspended his presidential campaign Thursday, telling a convention of conservative activists a protracted fight with John McCain would only aid the Democrats: USA Today. The move assures John McCain of the nomination - a prospect that roils some members of the conservative wing of the GOP: Citizen Link, Politico.com. What do you make of this latest turn of events? How much do you think Romney's Mormonism impacted his campaign? What about the Democrats? Will a prolonged nomination fight leave the party hopelessly divided: AFP News. What do you think about the fact that the Democrats will make political history no matter who they nominate? You can't endorse candidates from the pulpit, but how do you help your congregation think through which person they should vote for?
Governor Romney has shown some principled and pragmatic servant leadership. He realizes that the greatest issue of our time is the war on Islamic Fascism; and he understands that we need a strong President. Governor Romney's early exit will help Senator McCain be that President.
The governor's faith, though different from my, was not an impediment to my support for him. I do believe it was a factor - though minimal.
Now we have a race on the Democrat side. The Clinton's will not go away quietly. Both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama claim to carry the banner for change? Oh really?
Let's see, we had President Bush, then President Clinton, then President Bush, and then President Clinton again. That is change?
Senator Obama is endorsed by Senators Kerry and Kennedy (among others). Is that change or old style leftist politics?
There is a difference in the Democrat candidates. Senator Clinton will say anything to get elected. Senator Obama will say nothing to get elected.
Listen to their speeches and visit their campaign websites. Other than moaning about President Bush there seems to be very little in new proposals (if you can find them).
Yours in Christ, JOHN
