Breckenridge Chapel seeks to improve visibility in order to spread the Good News.
St. Matthews, KY, January 21, 2011: Breckenridge Chapel, Free Methodist Church, has launched a program to increase its visibility in the Saint Matthews community. “The church’s facility is in the center of Saint Matthews, and yet few people in the neighborhood know who or what we are.” said Dr. John Wesley Slider, the congregation’s pastor.
“We want to be more visible,” said Dr. Slider, “not to say how great we are, but to serve God and serve this community. We are trying to live out that old song, ‘Brighten the Corner Where You Are.’”
The church is doing that literally by improving the lighting on its building and sign and planning more attractive landscaping for the spring.
The congregation is not stopping there. The church is making its facility available for weddings and joining St. Matthews Area Ministries, and considering other ways to serve the community.
Breckenridge Chapel is also “taking responsibility” for four square blocks around the church. They have already mailed brochures to the more than four hundred residences in the sixteen square blocks around the church. They plan other mailings and contacts with their neighbors to let them know the Good News of God’s love.
