God's Vision for Breckenridge Chapel for 2012

As the pastor it is my responsibility to articulate and communicate God's intention (purpose) and invitation for Breckenridge Chapel, Free Methodist Church.  God has a purpose or intention for Breckenridge Chapel to fulfill with Him.  God invites Breckenridge Chapel to join Him in accomplishing His work.

Though the pastor has the primary responsibility to articulate and communicate what could be called God's vision for the church family, it is important that all members of the church be participants in the processs of understanding what that vision is.  It is also important that all members be active "owners" of this vision.  I shall continue to develop ways by which members may be meaningfully engaged in hearing God's invitation.

God's Purpose for Breckenridge Chapel

1. To intrduce others to Jesus in positive ways;
2. To assist all persons in following Jesus and becoming stronger disciples;
3. To relieve suffering in the lives of all persons, families, neighborhoods, and communities around us;
4. To encourage healthy families and relationships;
5. To plant new Free Methodist societies and churches in Louisville, Kentucky.

God's Invitation to Breckenridge Chapel for 2012

1. To conduct an objective and prayerful evaluation of the health of the church family and our role in the community;
2. To hold short-term studies;
3. To expand the music ministry;
4. To renew the ministries for children and youth;
5. To establish a fellowship ministry for seniors;
6. To become the parent for birthing new Free Methodist churches, societies, and fellowships in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 1663 Richard Alleine, a Puritan, published A Vindication of Piety.  In 1753 it was republished by John Wesley in A Christian Library.  Wesley used a part of the work on Monday, August 11, 1755, in what was probably the first celebration of the Covenant Renewal Service among Methodists.  Wesley found the service rich and meaningful, and they became a part of the Methodist practices.

In London during the early days of the Methodist Movement, these services were usually held on New Year’s Day.  Around Britain the Covenant Service was conducted whenever John Wesley visited a particular Methodist society.  Today, the Covenant Renewal Service is most commonly held on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, the first Sunday of a year, or at the anniversary of a church.
