We certainly encourage you to explore this website to discover more about us and who we are. We also invite you to come worship with us and meet us in person. Our Sunday worship is at 11:00am. We want to do more than invite you to "come to us and be with us." We want to go where God is at work - in your life, in your family, in the lives of others, and in our community. We understand that God has invited us to be a Church Family that ...

Introduces others to Jesus in positive ways;

Relieves suffering in our community and around the world;
Encourages and models healthy and godly marriages, families, and relationships.

We respond to God's invitation to join Him in His work in many ways - individually, in groups, or as an entire Church Family. Our focus, therefore, is not to get you to join us (though you are welcome). Our focus is to help you to discern God's invitation for you through Jesus Christ and to begin and continue your walk with Him.

Free Methodist Missions

AFRICA

Malawi: Pastor Annie Mdazyola has been named as Malawi's first national ICCM coordinator. Pray for Annie and Jen Willson in the upcoming days of training and transition. Pray for the Lord's blessing on ICCM in Malawi as it affects the lives of 50 children.

ASIA

Philippines: Translation work continues on the Mag-indi book of the Gospel of Luke. The books of Philemon and 1 Thessalonians have been submitted for consultant checking. Roger Stone (Affiliate/Summer Institute of Linguistics) reports the team hopes to finish translation of these three books by the end of June, bringing the total percentage of the New Testament completed to around 27 percent. The completion of Luke's gospel would also allow for the production of the Jesus Film later this year.

EUROPE

Hungary: Ask God to grant Ildiko discernment and patience as she seeks His direction to prepare herself to teach His Word in Hungary.

LATIN AMERICA

Brazil: Hope Owsley enjoys teaching women how to study the Bible. Inductive Bible study methods are demanding and often large classes diminish in size as women drop out. However, Hope is experiencing the opposite. Women are hungering for God's Word, and the classes are growing. Last fall Hope taught a group of 10. In February, the group expanded to 20. One of the members of a former class has begun a Bible study at her work place that meets each Friday. Three non-Christians miss their lunch to attend. Praise God for multiplying these efforts.

MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA

North Africa Creative Access Country: Church planting trainers are facilitating a second round of training this week in one North African country. Facilitators will visit church planting areas where work is underway to assess progress, help with challenges and assist in customizing the strategy to each area. Pray God would continue to help identify persons of peace. Pray for FM churches that are becoming regional training/sending centers for outreach work.

PAUL TAEHOON JUNG ORDAINED AN ELDER

Paul Taehoon Jung, associate pastor of Breckenridge Chapel in Saint Matthews, Kentucky, was ordained an Elder in the Free Methodist Church on April 12, 2013.

At the ordination service of the New South Conference, Bishop David Roller, Conference Superintendent Ron Balzer, and the Elders of the conference laid hands on Rev. Jung and set him apart for this ministry in the Church.

Paul has served in staff positions in congregations of the Korean Methodist Church in California, and recently as a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He served as the church planter and pastor of the Louisville Harvest Church (2006 – 2009), assistant pastor for Buechel United Methodist Church (2009-2010), and pastor of Pleasure Ridge Park United Methodist Church (2010-2011).

Dr. John Wesley Slider, pastor of Breckenridge Chapel, expressed the congregation’s strong support of Mr. Jung’s response to God’s call. “Paul and his family are wonderful additions to our church family,” said Dr. Slider, “Paul is a great addition to the annual conference and the ordained ministry.”

Paul and his wife, Eunice, have two children. The family became a part of the fellowship of Breckenridge Chapel in 2011. He was appointed again as the associate pastor for Breckenridge Chapel.

The Free Methodist Position on Same-Sex Marriage

The attached letter was sent recently from Bishop Thomas to our pastors in Washington state. The Study Commission on Doctrine (SCOD) believes it would be helpful as a reminder to send to all pastors regardless of your state’s position on marriage.

Dear Pastor:

Greetings in the Wonderful Name of Jesus! It is a joy to serve with you in ministry.

I am writing to you about the matter of marriage as it is undergoing legal redefinition in many states throughout the U.S. As you know, our creed, beliefs and practices are all based upon the clear teachings of Scripture and are neither formed nor guided by the changes or decrees of federal, state and local laws. These laws rarely contradict starkly the historic, theological and moral convictions we believe and advocate or promote behaviors formidably contrary to historic Christian teaching. We have been blessed to minister in a country where a stark collision of law and Christian conviction is rare. But, the marriage laws of several states make legal that which we see as inherently immoral from our Biblical and historic understanding of God’s intent for marriage (Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:4-6). And, whereas we seek to be law abiding citizens and promote the welfare of the state in which we live and submit to civil authorities under whom we live as implied in Romans 13:1-7 and 1 Peter 2:13-14, we simultaneously hold moral and ethical concerns which are tacit commands to all Christians in the very same contexts noted in the adjacent verses (Romans 13:8 and 1 Peter 2:11-12).

As a reminder, I have included the pertinent paragraphs in the 2011 Book of Discipline which again clarifies our perspective on marriage. It is congruent with the words of our historic wedding service which states, “Marriage is an honorable estate, instituted by God in the time of creation for the well-being of mankind. ... [It] is a union close and enduring, a relationship in which a man and a woman forsake all others to become one flesh. ... "

We strongly urge our pastors and churches to love and welcome all people into Free Methodist Churches with open arms, hearts of love and yearning for redemption. That would include people from every walk of life, conviction and conflicting viewpoint and experience. However, our reaching out to all people to embrace them does not warrant our embrace of beliefs or practices in conflict with the sanctified life that Christ offers. Such would result in syncretism or compromise of faith. The Board of Bishops urge you to please reach out and serve those broken by and enslaved to sin or bound by beliefs for practices that pull away from God. But, do so while upholding the integrity of your ordination vows and the beliefs and practices of the Free Methodist Church and historic Christianity by refusing to officiate wedding services for any configuration of marriage that is other than between a man and a woman.

¶3311 The Christian and Marriage
A. Principles Regarding Marriage
Nature of Marriage: At creation God instituted marriage for the well-being of humanity (Genesis 2:20-24; Mark 10:6-9). Marriage is the joining of one man and one woman into a lifelong relationship which the Scriptures call “one flesh.” Sexual intercourse is God’s gift to humanity, for the intimate union of a man and woman within marriage. In this relationship, it is to be celebrative (Hebrews 13:4).

Marriage, between one man and one woman, is therefore the only proper setting for sexual intimacy. Scripture requires purity before and faithfulness within and following marriage. Likewise, it condemns all unnatural sexual behavior such as incestuous abuse, child molestation, homosexual activity and prostitution (1 Corinthians 6:9; Romans 1:26-27).

We hold that marriage can only be the union of “one man and one woman” who have made a public covenant and vow before God and the state (Genesis 2:20-24; Mark 10:6-9). Therefore, it would be a breach of the doctrine of our church for ministers or members of the Free Methodist Church to conduct the marriage or blessing of a union between a same-sex or same-gender couple. In light of our beliefs, ministers and members of the Free Methodist Church shall not perform marriages or unions of same-sex or same-gender couples.

We hold that our congregations are stewards of the church property. Performing a marriage or blessing between a same-sex or same-gender couple in any Free Methodist Church building or on any Free Methodist property would be a violation of consecrated Free Methodist property. Therefore, such blessings or marriages may not be performed at Free Methodist churches or on Free Methodist properties.

Further, we believe that marriage the Free Methodist Church deems doctrinally acceptable, legal and appropriate should be safeguarded and supported by both the church and society and should be formalized with public vows. It is not enough for a couple to live together in private commitment; we believe that they are to covenant before God and the state.

With this as a backdrop, it is our prayer that you use every opportunity to serve and teach those who might view marriage differently. May God richly bless your committed service of our Lord and may the church you serve prosper in God’s love and goodness.
