Dr. John Wesley Slider is a Methodist pastor who retired from the United Methodist Church on July 1, 2010, and transferred to the Free Methodist Church on July 2, 2010. He is pastor of Breckenridge Chapel Free Methodist Church and chaplain for the St. Matthews Police Department. John and his wife, Lillian, have two children, Heather and William.
Lillian is a retired Nurse and a former Marine. She was captain of the University of Louisville Swimming Team.
Heather is married to Michael Hawkins and her stepson is Matthew. She is an attorney in Cincinnati. She was captain of the University of Louisville Field Hockey Team.
William is married to Tina, and they are graduates of the University of the Cumberlands. William is a two-sport athlete. He is currentlly in graduate school.
John is a native of Kentucky and grew up in Louisville. He is graduate of Hanover College where he received a BA in History. He played football and ran track in college.
Upon graduation from college John was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps where he served as an Armor and Infantry officer. He retired from the Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996.
Dr. Slider received his Masters and Doctorate from Southern Seminary in Louisville. He has served several pastorates in and around the Louisville area.
John has coached five different sports at the high school level - basketball, volleyball, cross country, swimming, and track. He now officiates high school volleyball.
Dr. Slider serves Clergy Advisor Council of the Crusade for Children. He is also on the Endowment Board for the Crusade.
He is a panelist on the Moral Side of the News that is aired weekly on WHAS-TV and 840AM radio and other stations.
